I am delighted to post a reprint of an article written by my friend Joe. Joe runs www.mmmgoblubbq.com and if you have added him to your blogroll you probably should! Thanks for the reprint, Joe!
A few weeks back, David at www.bbqdryrubs.com asked me if I could do a few reviews on some BBQ rubs and sauces. After agonizing over this for almost 1.5 seconds, I said “sure”. Any excuse to fire up the grill or smoker works for me. David has a great site and is all for helping the smaller BBQ guy get the word out on his product. I was sent a few sweet rubs, spicy rubs, salty rubs and a couple that I have not even opened yet. But this first one I want to go over is one of my new favorites. It’s called Lambert’s Sweet Rub O’Mine. This will be on my “Go To” list moving forward for sure. This is one of the best rubs I have tasted in a long time. I tried it out on a pork butt and some grilled asparagus and both turned out great and did not disappoint.
The first thing I picked up was a sweet flavor followed by a little heat. Not too much heat, but enough to make this great on chicken, pork and even veggies. One thing I hate in a rub is being overly salty. This is far from salty. The ingredients include sugar, salt, dehydrated onion and garlic, chili pepper, mustard flour and evaporated cane juice. Those last 2 are new to me.
The colors were also nice. It doesn’t turn the meat overly dark like a lot of rubs will do after a long smoke. This ended with a nice mahogany finish.
As you can see, after 8 hours, the color on this pork butt is gorgeous. The sweetness of this rub really held up throughout the entire cook and gave a great finish.
I typically like a sweet rub on pork and chicken and “Sweet Rub O’Mine” does exactly what it should. If you like sweet rubs with a little heat, give this one a try. I even tried this on some microwave popcorn. Yummmmy!!!! I think you will really enjoy it.
Again, many thanks to Joe for the reprint! If you would like to try Lambert’s Sweet Rub O Mine a link to Amazon is below.
